Built by hand. Run by people who actually stand on the boards.
METADESK is a Ukrainian family workshop building handcrafted wooden sadhu boards, balance boards, altar tables, and ritual tools. We have been making boards since 2016 from our workshop in Kostopil, Ukraine. The METADESK trademark is officially registered.
The founder
Eugene Oliynyk is the founder of METADESK and the person who designed our boards. Eugene came to sadhu boards through his own yoga practice — and since 2018 he has been a daily practitioner. Eight years on the boards. He works across every difficulty level we produce, including the most advanced 20 mm nail-spacing boards used for deeper standing meditation. That direct, daily relationship with the product is the reason our designs are dialed in for real practice, not for a catalog photo.
In 2016 Eugene started building boards for friends in the community. The first batch of ten boards sold to grateful practitioners within weeks, and METADESK grew from there into the team it is today.
The team
The workshop is run by Eugene together with his partners:
- Roman Karas — leads production. Every board, table, and ritual tool we ship has been through Roman’s hands or under his eye.
- Oleksandr Danylchuk (Alex) — handles international orders and partnerships. If you have ordered from outside Ukraine or worked with us as a studio, retailer, or wholesale partner, you have probably written to Alex.
Beyond the three of us, the workshop employs around a dozen craftspeople in Kostopil who cut, sand, hand-set nails, and finish every piece.
What we make
- Sadhu boards in copper and steel nail variants, with 8Â mm, 10Â mm, and 20Â mm nail spacings for every level of practice, and a range of hand-carved designs including Dragon, Tree of Life, Mandala, Yin Yang, and Lotus.
- Wooden balance boards for daily core, ankle, and proprioceptive practice — handcrafted from solid wood and built to last decades.
- Altar tables sized for floor seated practice, hand-finished in natural oil, designed to anchor a meditation corner or yoga studio.
- Tea ceremony tables, wall art, and other ritual tools — each made to order in the workshop.
How we work
Every board and every table is made by hand in the workshop. We source kiln-dried hardwood, set every nail by hand rather than by machine press, finish each piece with natural oils that let the wood continue to breathe and age, and individually inspect each item before it ships. Most pieces are built to order, which is why production typically takes one to two weeks.
We treat the practice that customers do on these objects as serious. That is why the boards are dimensioned for real bodies in real standing positions, not for shelf display. It is why the altar tables sit at the correct height for floor practice. And it is why we keep the product range tight rather than chasing trends.

A note on what these tools are and are not
Sadhu boards, balance boards, and altar tables are practice tools, not medical devices. We do not make therapeutic claims. The traditions behind these objects — Indian yogic standing practice, Buddhist altar setup, balance training as part of athletics and aging well — are old and well documented. We build the physical tools. The practice itself is up to you.
